Although it may seem daunting, it is worth noting that applying for permits to do work on your property in Historic Anacostia is no more complicated than a project anywhere else in the District of Columbia!
In any case, should you have questions or concerns about your project in the Anacostia Historic District, please reach out to HAPS (info@hapsdc.org) and we will try to assist you however we can.

The DCRA Homeowner's Center is devoted to helping homeowners get building permits for home improvement projects such as decks, fences, interior renovations and repairs, and window replacement.
Find out if your project needs a permit, what type of permit, and follow step-by-step instructions to obtain your permit. Then, apply and pay for your permit online.
Any construction in the District of Columbia done without required building permits is illegal construction. Construction in the District of Columbia is allowed Monday through Saturday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm without any special permits. Please call 311 to report imminent danger of collapse conditions immediately.
A building is blighted if it is unsafe, unsanitary, or otherwise determined to threaten the health, safety, or general welfare of the community.
